Don't talk of stars burning above, if you're in love SHOW ME!

oh, the humanity!

UGH! I have a CAVITY!!!!! :( Such a sad development in my already pathetic life.

So now, I have to go back in 2 weeks....and I have to worry about it over my big birthday weekend!! Oh sigh.

Well, in other news, I bought this movie, "The Cutting Edge" at Target for $5.50!! Totally worth it. Such a good flick.

If you're ever in the market for a good chocolate-eating, toe nail-polish painting chick flick, this is the ticket. :)

come to my window

Dun dun dun DAH!!! VINTAGE SCARF CURTAIN!! Isn't it cool!?! I eventually want to go all the way around my little window room, but that will take time.

Senacia gave me this idea---and I just thought I'd share it with you all :)

Oh..and I made a dream catcher. On the suggestion of Lauren. She has said numerous times "you should make a dream catcher." So-- I did (Sorry--can you tell I'm tired?)

Anyways--it so totally non-traditional, I almost feel bad calling it a dream catcher. The real ones are so amazing looking. I like to think that it looks like my dreams--my future dreams maybe.

It's all glittery, but simple and down-to-earth. I kind of hope no one buys it :)

Getting my teeth cleaned tomorrow--I think that's why I'm still up. Maybe if I don't fall asleep, tomorrow will never come! I know I know....I just need to floss more :(

take a tip from me

I have off Mondays! On the surface, this sounds great, except when you figure in the fact that I work Saturdays :(

Anyways, for my Monday off, I got my haircut!

It's not exactly what I was hoping for (but is it really ever?)

I think it'll look better in a week or so. But right now, I'm getting the bowl-cut vibe. Ah well.

On a related note, I started a little trend today. Tipping! I know it's customary---but you get such a nice feeling doing it.

I gave my stylist at The Hair Cuttery 6 bucks---then I gave my barrista at Starbucks one dollar...

Not much, but I liked to think it made their Monday, at work, a little bit brighter. :)

ode to mod podge

I can't remember the first time I saw a rainbow, or what I was wearing when I got my first kiss, but I clearly remember the first time I met my true love: Mod Podge.

This disco-inspired bottle of joy is my true obsession.

It literally can do anything. I am convinced of it.

Not only do I use it for all of my crown-making and sealing, I also repair broken ceramics, fix the seal on my refrigerator, and even using for its intended purpose: decoupage!

There is not a pair of pants that I own, (or a blanket or rug or table for that matter) that does not have evidence of a wiped "modgey" finger on it. (I get in a messy mood when I'm creating...ask my parents about the carpet in my childhood room....)

SO- this ode I devote to thee, my love, Mod Podge. You are at the root of my art, the obsession of my altered creations. Here's to you.

my birthday suit

It's coming!! My birthday!!

I will be the big 2-6 and to celebrate, I will be hanging out with my mom, dad, sister and baby niece, ELLA!! yyay!

So, now onto the details: The outfit!

I recently bought this fantastic vintage dress--it's kind of crinkly taffeta material, but silkier feeling, and has a big flower on the front. I love it.

So it may be a bit fancy for dinner, but hey, it's my birthday!

On a side note----here's a new friend: I will call him "stinky." He was hanging out on a plant.

ode to Jerry Lee

FACT: The oldest living cat is Creme Puff of Austin Texas. Born on August 3rd 1967, Creme Puff celebrated her 38th birthday in August 2005.

---

My cat, Jerry Lee, came to our family on my 11th birthday. We're not sure exactly when he was born, so this was always his birthday, too, by default.

So, in about 2 weeks, Jerry Lee will be celebrating his 16th birthday!

This first picture was taken the day we brought him home. It was a "take a picture for this missing sign in case he runs away" picture.

This second picture was taken last week! Jerry still hates having his picture taken :) Otherwise, he's just a bit on the skinny side and meows a lot more than he used to. He's gotten more affectionate in his old age as well.

wedding music

I've developed this obsession with marriage. Maybe it's all these brides I sell wedding crowns to on etsy.....then again, maybe it's my ever-marching-on age ( birthday's on the 29th!!)

In any event: I've started planning out every detail. The last detail, of course, will be the man. (minor detail heheh)

SO: Here is my list of wedding music!!

1.) At Last by Etta James (for first dance)

2.) What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong (for dance with daddy)

3.) All the King's Horses by Robert Plant (a good slow song, after YMCA or something)

4.) Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan  (for late into the reception)

5.) Canon in D by Pachelbel----performed by string quartet (for the march down the aisle)--I will walk in at approximately 2:04 into song.

6.) The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra (for last song.)

Any other suggestions would be welcomed :)

New little friend

This really cute little praying mantis scared the crap out of my last night. I turn the light on in my kitchen and BAM! Big bug looking right at me.

Seriously! Have you ever looked closely at them? Their eyes are really expressive, and their heads turn to follow you. We stared at each other for a bit...then I got him into a tupperware and let him out the window.

Poor little guy. Not sure how he got in. I think I will call him Manny.

Falling Man

"The Falling Man" --- a photograph taken by Richard Drew at 9:41:15 a.m., on September 11, 2001.

----

This may be considered a quite morbid post, but we sometimes have to confront the truly uncomfortable and disturbing points of life in order to appreciate the beautiful and calm.

After all this time, I still think of this one picture when I think of what happened 7 years ago. It is deeply affecting, and it somehow seems to encapsulate that wrenching. sinking feeling that we all had watching the TV that morning. It was a feeling of true alienation — our world was unknown, a shocking and foreign land. How could this picture coming through the TV waves be true?

I was in college, coming back from my boyfriend's house (he didn't have a TV) My roomate was glued to the TV--crying. I sat and watched until I had to leave for class. My teacher was crying. We all left.

(P.S. I will add a happy post in the next couple days-- to even this all out--promise!!)

history in a box

Some of you may know about my slight obsession with genealogy. I've never done research or anything like that. It's more photos and knic knacs.....A tube of lipstick I took from my Nana's bathroom... a crochet needle from Grandma ...pictures of my Grandfather in his Army uniform .... Papa's favorite biscuits.

And this brings me to my newest project: Recipes.

My mom has this great old box full of handwritten recipes, most from her mom (Nana). I decided I need one, too. So I'm transferring over my notebook full of clippings and Internet print-outs onto handwritten cards.

I made this green box and bought bunch of index cards....let the hand cramping begin!

And, as a special treat, I am pleased to present: Nana's Saltine Candy!

Ingredients:
35 saltine crackers
1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
12 oz. semi-sweet choc. chips
1 c. chopped pecans

Line a pan with crackers.

In microwave, heat butter and brown sugar 4 minutes, stirring after 2.
Pour evenly over crackers.

Bake 15-20 minutes in a 350 degree oven.

Spread immediately with choc. chips (use spoon or spatula to spread) and top with nuts.

Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Break up and serve!

Last night at work was crappy. And I think I'm getting sick. I feel all sore and achy and tired...soooo tired....
BUT!! Check it out! This morning I woke to find my FACE on the front page of etsy!! Whoo hoo!! I'm featured on "Etsy Finds: Get the Look" for Imogen Heap. She's pretty cool...
Anyways, here it is CLICK HERE.

to bang or not to bang?

That is the question.
I think it's high time I got my haircut. I really avoid doing this at all costs. Something about sitting in that chair with that thing around your neck and a woman with scissors... it really freaks me out.
The last cut I got was the drastically short one (as seen in my early sold items on Etsy). It's progressively gotten longer (as hair tends to do).
I cut the back myself once to stave off the mullet look.
But now, it's begging for some styling.
So here is my thought: Katie Holmes! Sure, she's kind of a freak-o with Tom Cruise and all that---but my goodness! Such cute hair!
I think I'm leaning toward the bangs....what do you guys think??
